SEO For Beginners: Climb the Google Rankings (2018 Tutorial)

19:40
New to SEO? This tutorial shows you how to optimize your website for search and rank high in Google. Watch how “Sam PhOHtography” optimizes his site against his competitors. ► Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom?sub_confirmation=1 What is SEO? SEO stands for search engine optimization. By definition, it is the process of optimizing your website and webpages to get “free”, “organic” traffic from search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. As a business owner, blogger, or website owner, your job is two-fold: First, you need to make it easy for search engines to understand what your page is about and create content that matches what we call, the “searcher’s intent.” Second, you need to show Google and other search engines that your pages are ‘worthy’ of ranking. In this video, Sam Oh gives clear examples and simple SEO tips to optimize a brand new website to rank #1 on Google (step-by-step). The SEO techniques that are taught in this training video include: 1. Keyword research By doing keyword research, you can see the average number of times someone searches for a specific keyword phrase in Google each month. Often times, the query that you think will be the most popular is often far from the truth. Using tools like Ahrefs Keywords Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/keywords-explorer), you’ll learn how to use the “parent topic” of a term to determine the best keywords to target for your pages. You’ll also learn what not to do (ie. keyword stuffing). Keyword research gives you clues on the language you should use to let both Google and potential customers know what our page is about. There are a few vivid examples in here to illustrate the best practices on how to do keyword research. If you want to sharpen your keyword research skills, I highly recommend watching this series on doing keyword research in 2018 and beyond. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zLBu_NfOaQ&list=PLvJ_dXFSpd2tIF-QrFD854Mnb8D4Av5vx 2. On-page SEO On-page SEO is the process of optimizing web pages with the intention to rank high in Google. If you want to rank #1 on Google, then your on-page SEO will need to be bang on. In this tutorial, you’ll learn 4 simple, yet highly effective tips to ensure you are following Google SEO best practices. Having optimized web pages will set the foundation for your success in search engine optimization. It will help Google understand what your content is about and help your customers find you. A few of the basic tips include: - Title tags - Meta descriptions - Heading tags (or H1 tags) - keyword usage - content creation - competitor analysis 3. Off-page SEO Off-page SEO is often referred to as link building. Link building is the process of getting other websites to link to your web pages. Basically, links act as “votes” or other people vouching for your website. Backlinks work in a similar way that you would refer your friend to buy a product from your favorite store because you’ve tried it, used it, and loved it. In general, the more quality backlinks you can get from relevant pages, the higher you’ll rank in Google. Sam will show you how to find backlink opportunities and the key technique that SEOs use to build links, which is through email outreach. I highly recommend watching our video series on competitor backlink analysis and link building here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io4ugroDedo&list=PLvJ_dXFSpd2vQNygbg5Uo1sMDs8aqRc4z There’s a lot to learn with SEO marketing. How to discover and replicate the best backlinks of your competitors

04:51
It can be really challenging to get backlinks that would put your site in the top 10 of search engines. But it would be so much easier if you could peek behind the curtain at the pages that now rank at the top 10 for your desired keyword and see all the backlinks that help them rank there! And guess what? You can with Ahrefs! Here's how Ahrefs can make your link building work much-much easiler: Step 1: Find your competition You need to know the top ranking pages for the keyword you want to rank for: - type your keyword into Google; - look who is in the top 3, top 5 or top 10, depending on how deep you want to go with your research. Step 2: Figure ourt who is linking to them - paste the top ranking page's URL into Site Explorer tool (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer); - go to the Referring Domains report and sort results by the DR (Domain Rating) to list the higher-value domains at the top of the report. Step 3: Replicate these backlinks - you need to open the backlinks for each of the most valuable referring domains; - look at the anchor text; - open the referring page; - search for the anchor text, so you can see how the backlink was made; - think about how you can get the same type of the backlink from this same site (you can join the community and start engaging and leave comments, write a guest post, reach out to the webmaster and ask to be featured, or reach out to the author and ask if she'd like to include your article when she writes about this topic again. There are no rules here, so be creative! Your job is to look at how your competitors acquired backlinks and do what they've done. The truth is, backlinks are hard to get... so you need persistence! There is no secret sauce: just use common sense. Replicate the strategies of the pages that are already in the top 10 and stay after it. Remember: start with the most powerful referring domains, because they'll push you higher than low-quality sites! How to Create Backlinks with the Broken Link Building Technique [OSEO-10]

07:00
One of the easiest link building strategies is to create backlinks with the broken link building technique. Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/c/ahrefscom?sub_confirmation=1 In this video, Tim Soulo takes you through a step-by-step process to get backlinks from high quality websites (ex. Copy Blogger). The process is quite simple: First, you can search for a domain in Ahrefs’ Site Explorer. (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer) From here, you can navigate to the broken links report which will find all websites that returned a ‘404 not found error.’ Yes, the page is dead! You can then filter down the report to only show DoFollow links. This will likely bring up websites that used to be quality pieces of content from a blog that are wasting link juice. Make sure that the page is indeed broken and then use archive.org to see what the page looked like prior to it being a dead link. You can now create a page or blog post on a similar topic and begin your outreach process to create backlinks for your website. The real SEO trick isn’t to get a backlink to your site from one link prospect. The magic happens when you find ALL backlinks pointing to the dead page. In the video example, the target URL had numerous referring domains pointing to it, which could result in a ton of links to your site. No matter what industry you’re in, there will be websites that have broken links. Use this beginner link building tactic to find high quality backlinks, with the help of Ahrefs’ backlink checker tool (Site Explorer). How to Choose Long Tail Keywords For Explosive Search Traffic

12:45
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to find and choose long tail keywords with high traffic potential and/or low competition (even if they have low individual search volume). Subscribe ►https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom?sub_confirmation=1 A common misconception is that long tail keywords must be a certain length (word count) in order to be classified as “long tail.” Our research on 1.4 billion keywords proves that this is a myth. So, what are long tail keywords? Long tail keywords are search queries with low individual search volume, but can have an enormous total search demand as a group. But these keywords generally fall into two “buckets.” Both are powerful but fit into different scenarios and should be treated differently. Bucket #1 is called “The Long Tail of Broad Topics.” These long tail keyword phrases generally fall into a broader topic (ie. “weight loss”). Some of these topics will have tens of thousands of long tail variations and ranking for the head term can result in potentially hundreds of thousands of search visitors each month to a single page. Bucket #2 is called “Topical Long Tail Keywords.” The long tail keywords in this group are generally based on more focused topics (ie. “squeeze pages”). They have fewer long tail variations, and may not produce as much search traffic as the first group. However, they are generally lower-competition keywords that will likely be easier to rank for. This video breaks down each bucket so you can enhance your keyword research to create content that can send you a torrent of free organic search traffic. How to Disavow Links Using Ahrefs and Google Webmaster Tools

05:44
If your website has had a negative SEO attack, you can disavow links using Ahrefs’ Site Explorer and Google Search Console (Google Webmaster Tools). Links for both tools are below. ► Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom?sub_confirmation=1 Tools used: Site Explorer: https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer Webmaster Tools Disavow Tool: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main The way that you would normally submit bad links to Google to be disavowed is by uploading a custom list of domains and/or URLs in Webmaster Tools. By submitting a disavow file, you are asking Google to not take them into account when assessing your site. The kinds of URLs and domains you would disavow are ones that you believe are low-quality links that you do not have control over. Before submitting your own list, Google recommends that you make every effort to clean up unnatural links pointing to your site. The problem for many bloggers and website owners is that they don’t know where these links are coming from. Ahrefs’ Site Explorer makes this a lot easier (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer). Site Explorer has a backlink checker tool that allows you to see all of the websites and domains that are linking to your domain. You can use search filters, narrow by country, and analyze the referring domains report to see which spammy sites are linking to yours. From there, you can simply check the boxes and create your own custom disavow file which you can upload directly into Google’s disavow tool. Combining these two tools will help you recover from Google Penguin updates and protect your website against future negative SEO attacks. Basic Keyword Research Tutorial: Find Low Competition Keywords with Ahrefs Keywords Explorer

08:43
This keyword research tutorial goes beyond search volumes and shows you how to find low competition keywords using Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer tool. https://ahrefs.com/keywords-explorer As shown in the video, not all keyword phrases should be chosen based on the volume. You should also focus on the number of clicks that it attracts. Doing this can help you find some easy keywords that you can potentially rank for within a month or two. Here’s how it’s done: Step 1: Find tons of great keyword ideas with the help of Ahrefs’ powerful Keywords Explorer tool. Enter one or two top-level terms related to your website and click the search button. Next, scroll down to see a section of keyword ideas - “having same terms.” You can click to view the full report and you’ll see the list ordered by search volume. Step 2: Find the best keyword opportunities for you. Want to know what metrics can help you find the best keyword opportunities? Well, search volume is one. But the second is for sure Keyword Difficulty score. Keywords Explorer tool has a keyword difficulty checker which shows you a score that can easily be refreshed by clicking on the “Get metrics”. Under each term, you can also see a few icons that show you what people see in Google’s SERPs. Step 3: Researching the number of backlinks from referring domains you need. Based on the KD reported for a keyword, you can identify how many backlinks you need to rank in the top 10 for this keyword. Scroll down to the SERPs overview where you see all the top ranking pages with the number of referring domains reported for each of the page. Step 4: Reviewing clicks and clicks per search. Traditionally we use search volume to determine how much traffic a keyword could send to your page if you rank well for this keyword. But just because people search for a term does not mean they click on the results. That is why we've developed a "Clicks" metric: you can use to confirm that a keyword doesn't just have a high search volume, but can actually send traffic to your page. Instead of finding keywords with high search Volume and assuming they'll send you a lot of traffic, you can verify that the term actually gets clicked in the SERPs. So you know for sure how much traffic you can get from it. Now you know how important it is to add "Clicks" to the search metrics you review when picking your best keyword opportunities and how to create a list of the easy keywords that you can possibly rank for in just a few months! New: "Content Gap" analysis in Ahrefs.

02:55
We have just released another great feature within our Site Explorer tool (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer) that you are sure to like! There are three new reports in Site Explorer tool under Organic search section: 1) "Competing Domains" report basically gives you a list of websites that share some organic search traffic with a site you analyse. You can easily see how many common keywords you have with your competitors and how many keywords they rank for and you don't. You can click on any of these numbers and see what these keywords actually are. 2) "Competing Pages" report shows you the list of competing pages that share organic search traffic with a page of your site you analyse. You can easily see a list of keywords that your competitors are ranking for, but you do not. 3) "Content Gap" report shows the keywords that your competitors are ranking for and you don't. You most probably did this before in Excel spreadsheets, but we've now automated it for you. Isn't it cool? Let us know what you think! This video covers various on page techniques, keyword research tips, and off page tactics (link building) that you can use to grow your organic traffic via. search engine optimization. Here is a summary of the SEO tips and tricks covered in this video: 1. Get more traffic from your existing pages by covering subtopics that Google wants to see. This tip will show you a twist to doing a content gap analysis to find sub topics that Google wants to see. 2. Reverse engineer Quora and other forums to find low competition keywords (plus a bonus traffic hack) Since Quora and other forums are powered by user generated content, it’s unlikely that people are intentionally building links to these pages. You’ll learn a powerful way to find low competition topics by analyzing forums. Also, you’ll learn the ridiculously simple traffic hack that Sam used to generate over 48,000 visitors and 15,000 leads. 3. Convert images into links back to your page. Using this tip, you’ll learn how to turn your images into high quality editorial backlinks. 4. Why you shouldn’t ignore broken link building (and how to do it fast). Broken link building is a strategy for SEOs at all levels. You’ll learn a simple way to find tons of new broken pages that you can recreate from your own unique angle and get some easy backlinks. Plus, you’ll learn some pro tips on making your campaigns more successful. 5. Strategically use case studies and stats in your articles Using data in your articles is a great way to gain more backlinks. You’ll see hard proof of this and learn some ways to ‘hack’ data (when you don’t have access to it). 6. Avoid “Keyword Unicorns” and consider search intent first. Using this simple keyword research tip, you’ll learn how to identify keywords you should avoid targeting and what to look for instead. 7. Add modifier keywords to your titles Modifier keywords are add-on words to a base keyword. You’ll learn an easy way to use these for your eCommerce product pages and rank for some long tail keyword phrases. 8. Monitor your competitors’ links (then steal them) Timing is critical when it comes to link building. You’ll learn how you can use real-time notifications to automate finding link prospects. 9. Find low competition keywords that NO keyword research tool can find You’ll learn a very simple trick to find low competition keywords with high traffic. 10. Claim unlinked mentions You’ll learn a very simple way to find websites that mention your company or brand, but don’t link to you. In fact, this technique will allow you to find these sites without ever having to visit the page to check. 11. Repurpose your Best Content If you have a blog post that has done particularly well by gaining social shares, links, or comments, then it’s worth repurposing so you can reach larger audiences on different networks. 12. Grab links from Wikipedia and make sure they stick Wikipedia is one of the world’s most visited websites. You’ll learn how you can strategically get traffic from Wikipedia and make sure that your links stick. 13. Why Your Links Are Not Helping You To Rank High In Google [OSEO-06]

07:39
Quantity of links DOES help you rank. Quality of links is also a crucial factor that helps you rank better. But there's one more thing that you might be missing out: the anchor text of the links pointing to your page! Be sure to send the right signals to Google here, otherwise, your competitors having less links and lower Domain Rating might outrank you - https://blog.ahrefs.com/why-your-links-are-not-helping-you-to-rank-high-in-google/ You might have a reputable authority website with lots of links, but some lousy competitor will still outrank you for a keyword that you wish to rank for. First of all, check out what keyword are both sites (pages) optimized for. There’s a chance that competitor’s site is well optimized for that particular keyword, while yours is optimized for some other one. But if your on-page SEO is pretty much identical, it’s time to examine the backlink profiles. It is highly advisable to compare both sites using Ahrefs Domain Comparison tool (https://ahrefs.com/labs/domain-comparison) to see which of them seems to be more powerful. Also, don't forget to check out the anchor text distribution on both backlink profiles with Ahrefs Site Explorer tool (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer). The anchors of your backlinks give hints to Google as to what your website is relevant to. The odds are that you’re sending wrong signals to Google, and that is why it ranks you for some keyword that you didn’t wish to rank for. How to Find Pages That Send Your Competitors Organic Search Traffic

What better way is there to get organic traffic than to see what’s working for your competitors? This video shows a competitor analysis on a website’s most visited pages from organic search. Subscribe ► https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom?sub_confirmation=1 The SEO tool that’s used in the video is Ahrefs’ Site Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer). This tool gives you valuable data on any website’s backlink profile, organic keyword rankings, top pages, and much more. Sam Oh will walk you through an actionable competitor analysis you can use to find the pages that send your competitors the most organic search traffic. With this data, you can find new content opportunities that your competitors are ranking for in Google and replicate the pages that send them a lot of organic traffic. If you’re a blogger, you’ll also learn a smart way to create data-driven outlines for your blog posts. The method is based on reverse engineering your competitor’s organic keyword rankings and identifying keyword phrases that fit together to create one cohesive blog post. Discovering low hanging search traffic opportunities with Ahrefs

05:38
If you want more traffic to your website, the quickest way to get it is to look for a low-hanging fruit. Discover a quick and easy solution that can give you a nice traffic boost without a ton of work! Step 1: Find the keywords where your website ranks #3-10. When a page ranks #3-10, it's already achieved page 1 ranking, so you only need to improve your rank by a few positions to see an immediate traffic boost. We've recently studied how many clicks the top 10 search results get in Google. We found that on page 1 about 50% of traffic goes to positions 1-3, while the pages that rank 5-10 get only 45% of the traffic. So simply moving a page from rank 7 to rank 3 can have a huge impact on your traffic. Here's how Ahrefs can help you find the pages that are in this sweet spot ready for an optimization boost. First, type your website into Site Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer) and open the Organic keywords report. This gives you a list of all the keywords you currently rank for. Use the Positions filter and set the range from 3 to 10 to see the keywords you rank for in this range and the actual pages that rank for them. Next, find the highest volume pages in this range, because they are the ones that are most likely to benefit your optimization efforts. To do this, order the Volume from highest to lowest. Now, for even more opportunities, you might want to run the report again setting the Positions filter for 11 to 50. Step 2: Create a list of keywords and pages you want to push higher in search. Review your reports and cherry-pick a few web pages that are your lowest-hanging fruit: the pages that rank #5 or #6, or are at the top of page 2, for example. Your goal is to push these pages higher in organic search results. And we have 3 suggestions for doing that: #1 Update the page: Look at your competition first and ask yourself: why would Google put this page ahead of yours? Why is it a better experience for the user to land on this page versus yours? Then add fresh relevant content to your page and signal to search engines that your page has been refreshed and is worth ranking higher. #2 Create internal links to this page: Pages with higher URL Rating are seen by search engines as the most valuable pages on your site. So a link from one of these pages pointing back to your newly-refreshed page can give a small authority boost right away. As a result, it could move up in the search results. First, find those high-value pages on your website. In Site Explorer open the Best by links report, look at the UR that tells you how powerful a page is, based on the number of backlinks from other websites. You want to find pages with a high UR that are related in some way to your newly-updated page, so a backlink from them would make sense. Just go into one or two of your high-UR pages and add a backlink to your updated page - it should help you rank a little higher. #3 Build new backlinks to the page: Unlike internal links that carry just a little bit of weight, links from other websites are one of Google's major ranking factors, so you should try to build them. How? We'll show you in our next video! As you see, getting more traffic doesn't have to be a hard task! You can boost your ranking for your target keywords with a few easy tweaks: just by updating the existing content and adding some internal links. And with Ahrefs you can easily find the pages that are most likely to give you good results. So go and run your Organic keywords report and let us know how it works for you! Content Explorer Tips for Topic Research, Guest Blogging, and Link Building

07:00
We've just realized that the Content Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/content-explorer) tool that we have in Ahrefs is not getting the attention it deserves. That's why we recorded this quick screencast to show you how we use this tool here at Ahrefs for: researching content, landing easy guest blogging opportunities, and finding juicy prospects for link building outreach! Do you still just put some keyword into the tool and look at the search results you get? By default, we are sorting the results by "Relevance", but the true value comes when you start to play with different sorting options available! For example, you may sort the results by the number of referring domains and get the articles on a specified topic with the biggest amount of referring domains, which is cool for researching content that attracts backlinks. Also, you may sort results by organic search traffic and this way see not just which articles are popular based on the amount of shares or generated the biggest amount of backlinks, but also which of them have the biggest amount of organic search traffic. You can then click "Details," go to "Organic keywords" tab and see all the keywords that this article is ranking for. As you see, you should use the variety of sorting options available in Content Explorer, because this will give you a ton of great content pieces to research and analyse! Here's another thing you can use Content Explorer for: landing easy guest blogging opportunities! If you want to find not so popular blogs for guest posting and link building purposes, just put the topic of your interest into the tool, sort the results by "Domain Rating" (from 30 to 40, for example), and it will give you the list of blogs with low DR that will most likely accept your article. Mind that you can also use our "One article per domain" filter to only get individual blogs that mention your topic of interest or use our "Highlight unlinked domains" option that will highlight articles coming from domains that don’t have links to target domain you specify (and you can then export only highlighted domains, by the way). The same trick actually applies for link building outreach: you just input the keyword into the search filed, sort results using "One article per domain" filter, and use "Highlight unlinked domains" option to check for sites that mentioned your keyword, but never linked to your site. And that's it: instantly you will see quite a few opportunities to reach out and tell about your article! These are just a few tricks that make our Content Explorer a very powerful and a very special tool for content research, link building/guest blogging prospecting! What do you think about Content Explorer? We'd love to know your honest feedback about the tool and other use-cases, if any! How to Steal Organic Search Traffic From Your Competitors

05:51
The easiest way to get more organic traffic is to see what your competitors are doing, and do it 10x better. In this video, you’ll learn an SEO strategy to rank high on Google by spying on your competitors’ top pages and potentially ‘steal’ traffic from competing sites. Here’s a summary of the basic steps. Step #1: Make a list of competitors First, put your website into Site Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer). Then open the "Competing Domains" report. This report helps you find your top competitors and lists the sites that rank for the same keywords as your target website. "Common" shows you how many unique keywords the two sites have, "Unique" shows you the number of keywords unique to that website - whether yours or your competitor's. So you get a side-by-side comparison of your site and each competitor. From this list choose your competitors’ websites you want to research for content and traffic wins. Step #2 Find pages worth replicating Analyze each of the competitors on your list to find the pages that get a lot of organic traffic that you could replicate on your site. Go to the Overview page to see each competitor. You might be tempted to go to the "Organic keywords" report which lists all of the keyword phrases that a site ranks for. But since you are looking for pages to replicate, using the "Top pages" report will provide better results. This report gives you the same information as the "Organic keywords" report, but is organized by the pages rather than the keywords. Results here are sorted by the monthly search traffic and you can easily see how many keywords each page ranks for. Next, select a page that is worth replicating. Step #3 Analyze the page's referring domains and website traffic You can easily get the monthly traffic, the number of referring domains, and the top keywords for each page from the "Top pages" report. Why do we need this information? Because without backlinks your page won't rank and you won't be able to get as much traffic, as your competitors get. This step is critical for link building and getting backlinks from websites that your competitors have previously earned them from. Step #4 Prioritize your workflow Begin with the articles that have a lot of traffic, but a low number of referring domains. Then you can progress to the articles that have more referring domains, which will need more time and effort for link building. Always remember: replicating a page is just half of this SEO strategy. The other half is building backlinks. So you can not only "steal" traffic from your competitors, but possibly outrank them, too. How To Create Content that Boosts Search Traffic, Backlinks and Shares

05:38
In this tutorial we will show you a real cool way to plan content that can seriously boost your search traffic, backlinks, and social shares. Check it out and do not forget to get our 14-day Free Trial activated and put all the tips shared in this tutorial into practice! What do you need to create content that drives traffic to your website and converts that traffic into leads or customers? Look at what's already generating traffic, shares and backlinks! The tool we use for this is Ahrefs Content Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/content-explorer). It gives you incredible insights into the top content on any topic you might be writing about. Here is how Ahrefs can help you plan your content: Step 1: Enter your keyword in Content Explorer tool. The tool helps you research the top content for whatever keyword you are targeting, so you can see what's driving traffic, what's getting backlinks and social shares. Step 2: Sort the information depending on your goals. The real power of Content Explorer is the ability to sort the results (by relevance, referring domains, search traffic, domain rating, total shares, date or more). Sorting by referring domains sorts the results by the number of backlinks each page has, so aiming for page one in search engines, we can see what's ranking for this keyword. You may click 'Details' - 'Referring domains' and see the sites that are linking to pages on your topic of interest. This list can be used to plan your outreach when you are ready to promote your article. Sorting by search traffic allows you to explore the organic keywords each result ranks for, their positions and other useful data that helps you figure out which keywords you want to mention in your article, so you can get the most traffic possible from it. Sorting by social shares will show you pages related to your keyword that are also getting a lot of traction in social media. Some topics expire in time, while others get popularity - it's all about what's trending now. You may use the date-picker in Content Explorer and further refine your results by the publish date. This lets you see what content has been performing well in the last 24 hours, the last week or the last month, instead of sorting through all the content ever published on your keyword. To sum up: first off, you really need to know what your goals are, since that determines the type of content you might want to create; then enter the keywords you are targeting into Ahrefs Content Explorer and sort for whatever your goal is (either referring domains, search traffic or total shares); analyse the top-performing pages to see why they attract backlinks or shares, so you can create something that performs even better; you'll also want to look at the sites that are linking to these pages, so you can plan your link strategy in advance. That's it! Whenever you are planning your marketing campaign, use Ahrefs to gather the info you need, so you can nail your content from the very start, whether you are aiming for traffic, shares or links. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it works for you! Can you Rank on Google WITHOUT Links? [OSEO-03]

04:12
Can you ACTUALLY get Google rankings without links? In this episode, Tim Soulo shows you a REAL case study of how Ahrefs ranked on Google, page 1, for a pretty competitive keyword phrase without link building. This proves that your website can rank high on Google even with zero backlinks, which is how websites like YouTube, Slideshare, and the Huffington Post are doing it all the time. The solution to link-free website rankings? A solid Domain Rating (DR). Domain Rating is the combined power of ALL backlinks that link to ALL of the pages of your website. This video explains Ahrefs’ Domain Rating metric (with examples) and how a high DR can help you rank in Google. The other video mentioned on how to rank for any keyword in Google can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVyU2KT3Dr0 For more information on Ahrefs’ Domain Rating metric, you can read this blog post with our latest update and how to use it: https://ahrefs.com/blog/domain-rating/ Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more great SEO tutorials. https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom?sub_confirmation=1 STAY TUNED: Ahrefs ► https://ahrefs.com/ YouTune channel ►https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom Facebook ►https://www.facebook.com/Ahrefs Twitter ►https://twitter.com/ahrefs Google+ ►https://plus.google.com/+AhrefsCom/posts

How To Build Links With Guest Articles - The Robin Hood Technique [OSEO-01]

02:12
Guest blogging is one of the most powerful link building tactics! In this video you will learn to solve two main challenges of link building with guest posts with a cool guest blogging hack called "The Robin Hood Technique" - https://blog.ahrefs.com/one-billion-pages-crawled-by-content-explorer/ Link building with guest articles consists of 2 phases: Phase #1: Coming up with a cool article idea that will happily get accepted by any blog. Phase #2: Finding dozens of new blogs to pitch your cool ideas to. So for the “Phase #1” you may put some keywords into Content Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/content-explorer) that best describe the topic that you would like to write about. You’ll instantly get a list of relevant articles ranked by how many shares they got on social media. Reading a few of these top-notch articles will help you easily come up with a few great ideas of your own. Moving to the “Phase #2”, go to page 10 of Content Explorer results for that same keyword and you’ll see a list of articles on the same topic that weren’t that successful. This means you can reach out to the blog owner and offer him to tackle this topic based on the most shared articles you’ve just read. Thus, basically you “steal” proven content ideas from the big blogs and publish them as guest articles on smaller blogs. Hence the name of the technique – The “Robin Hood” Technique. How to Find Thousands of Keyword Ideas for SEO

14:52
Learn how to generate a list of thousands of SOLID keyword ideas for SEO using Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer tool. You’ll see how to extract solid keyword phrases from Ahrefs’ monstrous database of nearly 6 BILLION keywords. (https://ahrefs.com/keywords-explorer) This is the second video in our keyword research tutorial series. Throughout this video, Sam Oh covers 6 unique reports within Keywords Explorer tool. You’ll learn how to use a seed keyword to generate hundreds of thousands of keywords and narrow down your keyword list using smart filter combinations. The reports covered in this video are: - Phrase match - Having same terms - Also rank for - Search suggestions - Newly discovered - Questions The first filter shows you how to find low competition keywords with high search volumes. By setting a maximum keyword difficulty score and a minimum search volume, you can find keywords that have little competition, making them potentially great targets that will likely be easier to rank for on Google. The second filter shows you how to find keywords that have SERP features. Some SERP features include ads, questions, knowledge boxes, featured snippets, and videos. For example, you can use this filter to find and optimize your content for “featured snippets.” Owning featured snippets can increase your organic traffic by 8.6% even if you don’t rank on the first page of Google. If you would like to learn more about featured snippets, you can read these two articles that go into great detail on this topic: https://ahrefs.com/blog/find-featured-snippets/ https://ahrefs.com/blog/featured-snippets-study/ The third filter shows you how to find highly commercial keywords with low competition. You can achieve this by setting a maximum keyword difficulty score and a minimum Adwords CPC value. This filter is great for Adsense members, who can potentially collect a hefty commission after ranking for these easier keyword targets. Also, if you’re in a niche that typically has heavy competition in Adwords, you can use this filter to gain a lot of free traffic that has high business value. The last filter shows you how to find bottom of the funnel keywords. This will help you find content ideas that have a higher probability of converting new visitors into customers. You can use these filters in any of the reports shown in the video. There are a ton of examples demonstrated to help illustrate each point and more importantly, help you put these into action. Ahrefs update: SERP features support, better keyword data

03:54
Great news: we've recently released a few cool improvements to our keyword ranking data. Check out what's new and why it is cool! 1) SERP features support: The days of 10 blue links are long gone - almost any keyword you put into Google will have a bunch of SERP features: news, questions, tweets, knowledge cards, etc. Now you can see all of them in Ahrefs! Check Organic keywords report in Site Explorer tool (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer) and on the left we will show you all the SERP features that can be seen for a given keyword, while on the right we will show if your target website is featured in one of them. 2) "SERP Overview" report: Just click on the "SERP" button to the right and we will show you how the search results for any keyword in the report look like, along with some important SEO metrics for each ranking page: Domain Rating, URL Rating, number of backlinks and referring domains, estimated search traffic, how many keywords they rank for. This is pretty cool for a quick check of who ranks at the top for this keyword and how strong these pages are! 3) Better data: Ahrefs now has one additional data source - clickstream. Here's what we are able to do thanks to it: - we've vastly improved keyword database and now support over 100 countries (the size of our keyword database for US alone is approaching to 130 million kleywords!), and will now update our database with fresh keywords every single month, so it will get even bigger; - better search volume estimates: the search volume data that we have collected from clickstream was paired with our existing volume data (from Google Keyword Planner) and after a few iterations we created a model that would give a very accurate search volume for almost any keyword there is; - better traffic estimations: now we know much better which pages in search results get clicks and which don't, so we can estimate search traffic better than before. Two important things to note, though: 1) we are still working on improving our organic search traffic estimates, so the numbers you see today are still not final; 2) there are billions of long-tail keywords that send traffic and we are not tracking them because there are just too many, but we already have a few ideas of how to tackle this issue and improve our traffic estimations even further! That's it! These are our 3 most recent improvements and the new ones are already on their way, so stay tuned! And the way you do that is to piggyback off of your competitors’ content marketing efforts so that you can find the best content ideas you should focus your efforts on. The SEO tools used in this video are: Ahrefs Site Explorer - https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer Ahrefs Batch Analysis - https://ahrefs.com/batch-analysis First, you'll need to build the list of up to 50 competitors. How do you find them? 0:42 Add your site to Dashboard (https://ahrefs.com/dashboard/metrics) at Ahrefs. 0:50 Move to Ahrefs’ Site Explorer (https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer) and check your Top 10 Competitors report within the SE - Overview tab. You may easily check each of them in SE, as well. Another way to find competitors is to search them in Google. Your next step is to find out how strong their domains are compared to you. 3:35 Submit your competitors' sites for analysis into Ahrefs Batch Analysis tool (https://ahrefs.com/batch-analysis) and check their Domain Rating. Pick up sites with Domain Rating within 5 of yours. For example, if your DR is 50, look for websites with a DR within 45-55. 5:30 Submit any of them for analysis to Ahrefs’ Organic Keywords Report (formerly ‘Positions Explorer’) - https://ahrefs.com/positions-explorer. This will find all of the keywords this website ranks for. 5:58 Check the "Top Pages" report in SE to see the pages on that domain that receive the most traffic and the number of keywords each of them ranks for. Brainstorm keyword ideas and consider if it would be interesting to create content around these topics. Perform this process for all of your competitors and the result will be a massive list of content ideas that your competitors are ranking for, that have the same level of domain authority as you. From here, pick a topic you can blog about and you have pretty good chance of ranking high in Google. As long as you also do the effort of building the same kind of links to your content, the chances of increasing organic traffic will increase with it. To build links, you can go back to Site Explorer, put your competitor’s page URL, look at the links they have and try to replicate those links. You can also try to create backlinks using the broken link building technique covered in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6aYWovKaNM Be sure to subscribe for more actionable SEO tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom?sub_confirmation=1 STAY TUNED: Ahrefs ► https://ahrefs.com/ Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/Ahrefs Twitter ► https://twitter.com/ahrefs Google+ ► https://plus.google.com/+AhrefsCom/posts YouTube channel ► https://www.youtube.com/AhrefsCom
